Due to lack of tour dates with Steve Kimock, I seem to have some time off. I contacted our publicist to see if she had any other bands that needed a recording and/or FOH engineer. She hooked me up with The Heavy Pets. I am now their Road Manager, Sound man, Recording Engineer and I think that I'm also going to be the Production Manager. My first gig with the band will be November 26, 2010 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.

I'm looking forward to working with the band and meeting their fans. If you are at any of the shows, please come by and say hello.

You can find more info on their website: http://theheavypets.com/

Luckily, this doesn't interfere with my schedule with kimock, so I'll still be working with Steve when possible.

Yes, congrats on new work; me: I've found myself in Casper, WY with new work in the real world & out of the gov contract world of Oak Ridge & the like. It feels good to be busy on new & different-but-the-same stuff.

I'm sure they know what a find they've found in you! Thanks for all your selfless sharing of fruits of your labor-of-love, the good ole GD, etc.

I like the clips on THP website: Ichabod’s Train opening reminds me of Masterpiece, & No More Time reminds me somehow of early Rads (~'80's Work Done On Premises-era), but I can't put my finger on why. I'm listening to http://www.archive.org/details/heavypets2010-04-10.milab as an intro to the band; at 12:26, Bibbles seems like a good well-developed interesting instrumental.

I have a daughter at Yale. I'll try to talk her into visiting the Band's show there 11/30 (30 y after my 11/30/80 visit to the Fox for my 2nd Dead show) & giving a report to us all...

Again much thanks & happy trails on the road Mr. Miller,

So I just listened to some of the cuts on the site.

Girl you Make me Stupid - Rap has sex with jam and this is what you get.

How Would I - Funky-ness with a tribute to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Grace Blix - Love this one. Sounds a little like the Chi-lites with some Pat Metheny (sort of). I didn't listen to the lyrics much but I think it's a parody of sorts.

Jackie Bones - I just can't describe it. Funk and Jam and lots of other stuff.

Lazy Ana - Dark and mysterious. Kind of rappin' but, gosh, something else too. How can there be so many words in one song? Kinda like Spooky Tooth but so much hipper.

Spin 'Round - nice upbeat touch after the last song.

No More Time - Reggae-ish. They really have a knack for combining styles. Of course this doesnt' sound like true reggae but that might be what is cool about it.

Osyrus - Pop song full of bubble gum, hand-holding and good feelings. Still played well though.

70 Beats in the Lion's Den - A little piano jazz here with some lounge and I want to keep comparing them a little to Guster, this song more than others.

Xylophone - Their lyrics are well thought out and paint many different pictures.

Ichabod's Train - OK, this one DOES sound like a Guster song. Nice and relaxing.

Drenched - Finally some nice guitar work. I want to hear more of course and I'm sure in concert they will stretch these songs out more. Can't wait to hear.

Have fun on the new adventure. If you guys do a west coast swing through Oregon I'll be there. May this bring new opportunities and wisdom to you.

Congrats on the new gig. Giving this one a listen right now:

I do have mixed emotions on this though. I am happy that you got the new gig, although i had suspected that the sudden surge of new transfers that you have hit us with was related to you not being on the road with Kimock and having some extra time on your hands so you got around to finishing up some projects. No more extra time now. C'est la vie, i think i have downloaded enough music during the last few weeks to keep me occupied for a while!! Good luck and Thanks for all your efforts!!

Hey Charlie! See if you can't get The Heavy Pets to come to Boston.
Thanks for the heads up. And with an endorsement from you, I'm sure they'll do well -- my husband just called them "the band Oprah likes". You sir, have some clout.
